About The Australian Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix

The Australian Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix is Australia's first, and premier, professional BJJ League. Each event puts 8 of the best jiu-jitsu fighters together in an elimination style contest that runs between 2 and 3 hours.

The Winner Earns $2000 and the Runner-up $500!

Our events are also family friendly, allowing children to come and watch the events yet still be home at a reasonable time. Centrally located in Sydney at the UNSW Roundhouse, the doors open at 2pm with the first match beginning at 2.30pm. The final match is scheduled for 5pm. Although both the bistro and bar are also open inside the venue, due to the time and location of the event you have plenty of options to go out for lunch before it, or for a few drinks and dinner after it.

Either way, we hope to see you at one of our events soon!

Rules

The Australian Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix follows the official rules (for black belt) as outlined by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. If they change their rules, therefore our rules will follow in alignment.

The only changes to these rules in regards to match times and in the event of a draw.

Match Times

  •    - First Round (all 8 competitors) - 7 minute match
  •    - Second Round (semi final) - 10 minute match
  •    - Third Round (final) - 20 minute match

A Drawn Match

Because there is so much riding on this for the competitors, we don't want a match to be decided by the referee. Therefore, if at the end of the match the points and advantages are equal then ...

  •    - The referee will stop the match
  •    - After a 1 minute break, the match will be restarted from standing
  •    - Winner will be the first person to get EITHER a submission, 2 points OR 2 advantages
